Nextens customer app

A mobile extension for clients & advisors

To complement the redesigned klantportaal (customor portal) , I designed a Nextens app. While the portal mainly serves tax advisors, the app was created to also give clients (individuals and small business owners) direct access to their documents, tasks, and deadlines. This way, collaboration between advisor and client becomes smoother, faster, and more transparent.

Through the app, clients can upload receipts or missing documents on the go, approve tax returns digitally, receive notifications about deadlines, and directly chat with their advisor. For advisors, this reduces the back-and-forth via email or phone and ensures that all client input lands neatly in the same environment.

The Challenge

The klantportaal was built for advisors, not for clients. But advisors rely heavily on timely input from their clients to complete tax returns. That led to the question:
"How can we design a mobile app that makes it easier for clients to deliver the right information on time, while keeping the process simple and stress-free?"

Results

The Nextens app concept introduced:

- Push notifications: automatic reminders for clients about missing documents or upcoming deadlines.

- Document upload: clients can simply take a photo of a receipt or document and upload it directly into the right tax file.

- Approval flow: advisors can send drafts via the app, and clients can review and approve with one tap.

- Mobile-first simplicity: clean, step-by-step design with short explanations, ensuring even less tech-savvy clients can use it.

This extension reduces delays in the tax process and strengthens the collaboration between advisor and client.

My Role

I was responsible for the concept development, wireframing, and high-fidelity app design in Figma. I also tested early prototypes with both advisors and clients to validate usability.

This project taught me how to balance two user groups (B2B & B2C) in one ecosystem and how to create consistency between an existing web portal and a new mobile-first app.
